Italy's northern metropolitan city of Milan is renowned for being a cultural powerhouse, in Europe and worldwide, with strong links to fashion, arts, media, design and more, but also it is without question an incredible destination for nature escapes, history and beautiful architecture.
With an unhealthy obsession for beautiful scenery akin to kittens and catnip, I scribbled Como down on my “pretty things to take pictures of in Italy” hit-list with nothing more on my mind than big hills and a lake to feed my camera. It was only when I arrived in Como that I realised it had so much more to offer.
When presented with the opportunity for a summer escape to northern Italy, I initially couldn’t work out how to respond. Despite the country’s attractive pizza and pasta culture, stunning landscapes and suntan climate, it was never penciled down on my ‘so-and-so before you die’ list.
